Family Home Care
Large groups aren't ideal for all children and the family child care program has just the solution. For children that thrive in a smaller, more personal setting, we have many in-home child care providers. Each home is limited to six or less children, allowing for more one-on-one care. Becoming a FHC Provider
There is a tremendous need for certified providers, especially in the area of infant care. Classes are taught that provide education, business, health & safety, nutrition and curriculum.
Being a provider is rewarding both financially and personally, giving you the opportunity to stay at home with your own children. FHC Providers receive free training, equipment & supplies. Spouses living off base and DoD spouses may join. Licensing is mandatory for base residents caring for children more than ten hours. Call 318.456.3354 for details.
Family Child Care - Advertising Guidelines
In accordance with AFI 34-276, Family Child Care Programs, individuals, who are not approved as licensed family child care providers on Barksdale AFB, should not be permitted to advertise in base publications or post notices on on-base bulletin boards. A current list of licensed family child care providers may be obtained by calling the Family Child Care office at 318.456.3354.
Expanded Child Care
The Expanded Child Care (ECC) Program assists families with special circumstances concerning child care. ECC Programs include the following:
Extended Duty Child Care (EDC) - The EDC program assists families in obtaining high-quality child care from licensed or affiliated providers at or near the base when weekly parental workloads, due to extended duty hours, exceed the standard 50 hours of care (typically 10 hours a day or 5-day work week) that families are already purchasing in child care programs on or off base. Families should establish a plan to meet all their child care needs e.g., short-term TDYs, shift work care where shift work is the typical assignment, family days, deployments, etc. The EDC program should be considered the "back-up plan."
The Returning Home Care (RHC) program provides child care to eligible members returning from 30-days or more deployment in support of contingency operations as well as those returning for their 2-week Rest and Recuperation (R&R) leave.
The Home Community Care (HCC) program is designed to provide care for ANG/AFR members during their scheduled UTA (drill) weekend.
To be eligible for any Expanded Child Care (ECC) program, at least one parent must be a member of the U.S. Military Service: Active Duty; Reserve or Guard member in activated status; dual employed (military married to civilian) or DoD civilian employee assigned to or working on the installation. Being provided care is a privilege, not a right, and the Family Child Care program is a final approval authority on whether or not a child is accepted for care. First priority is given to parents whose children are currently enrolled in the Air Force Child Development, School-age and/or Family Child Care programs.
As a joint project between Family Child Care and the Air Force Aid Society, persons with a permanent change of station (PCS) to or from Barksdale are eligible for 20 hours free child care per child.
Volunteers at base agencies may also receive free child care. This is a joint venture between Family Child Care and the Family Support Center. Call 456-3354 for details about any of these programs.
The Barksdale Air Force Base Family Child Care Program
announces its sponsorship of the Family Day Care Home component of the Child and Adult Care Food Program. All children in attendance will be offered the same meals at no separate charge and with no physical segregation of or other discrimination against any child because of race, sex, age, color, disability or national origin. Participants who are members of FITAP assistance units or Food Stamp households are automatically eligible to receive free meal benefits. This statement applies to all family day care homes under the jurisdiction of this agency.
If any member of a household believes they have been discriminated against, they should write immediately to USDA, Director, Office of Civil Rights, Room 326-W, Whitten Building, 1400 Independence Avenue, SW, Washington, D.C. 20250-9410 or call (202) 720-5964 (voice and TDD). Severely Injured Military Families' Child Care Assistance
A recent initiative sponsored by DoD provides families of severely injured military members with assistance to find and pay for safe, licensed child care services for a period of six months during their period of recuperation. (Extensions beyond the 6-month period are considered based upon physician reassessment.) Family Member Programs staff work with the National Association for Child Care Resource and Referral to assist families in locating care. The program is available nationwide wherever the injured member is receiving either in-patient or out-patient medical care and allows the spouse to be at bedside or to help with outpatient medical appointments. DoD provides a financial offset to the civilian child care fees during the recovery period.
Free Child Care
Persons needing additional child care during late duty hours and recalls should call the Extended Duty Care (EDC) program. This care is FREE. Transportation is available to or from the CDC or School Age Program.
The EDC Returning Home Care Program can also provide 16 hours free child care per child to persons returning from 30+ day deployment in support of Global War on Terrorism. The program must be used within 30 days of return from deployment.

Extended Duty Care
Extended duty care is available for those needing occasional weekend or evening care beyond your 50 hour child care week. Temporary shift changes and special circumstances may also apply. This type of care can be provided at no cost to you.
