                                                              Primary Mission

Appointments

While the Veterinary Clinic is dedicated to the care of all personal pets, it is not the only service of the clinic. The primary mission of the Vet Clinic is to provide complete medical care for our four legged soldiers, the Military Working Dogs. Because our mission is to provide the best care for the Military Working Dogs, the normal operating hours of the Vet Clinic may change without notice.

Pets are seen on an appointment-available basis only. The Vet Clinic only has limited days and times for appointments. If you cannot keep a scheduled appointment, please provide a 24 hour notice so that appointment may be offered to someone else. Failure to do so will result in documenting a “no show.” When two “no shows” occur, the client will lose veterinary privileges for six months and the chain of command may be notified.  A third "no show" will result in permanent loss of veterinary privileges and notification of chain of command.

There may be occasions when you are unable to get an appointment with the Vet Clinic. It is ultimately your responsibility to keep your pet current on all vaccinations, whether it is through the Vet Clinic or an off-base clinic. Failure to do so may result in a loss of pet privileges and/or loss of base housing privileges.

Payment Methods Accepted

Cash, Check, Mastercard and Visa are accepted. We do not offer any payment plans, so all financial obligations must be made before leaving the facility.   There is a $2.00 transaction fee on EVERY transaction made in the clinic.

Services Provided
The Barksdale Veterinary Clinic provides vaccinations, heartworm testing and prevention, routine dentals and surgeries, feline leukemia testing, parasite control products, microchipping, and health certificates for travel. Sick calls are accepted on a limited basis, based on facility capabilities and time. Prescription medications, including heartworm and parasite prevention products, are only available once a valid veterinary-client-patient relationship (VCPR) has been established and proof of vaccinations have been received if not a current patient.

The Barksdale Vet Clinic does not have the capabilities to offer hospitalization, intensive care, illnesses or care requiring extended and/or prolonged treatment or emergency services. For this reason, it is highly recommended that you locate and establish a VCPR with an off post veterinary clinic. The office staff can provide you with a list of local civilian veterinarians.  The clinic also does not offer grooming or boarding.  We do offer a list of local facilities that offer these services and can be picked up in our clinic during buisness hours.

Immunizations
Due to the prevalence of rabies disease in Louisiana patients of the clinic will receive an annual rabies vaccination.  New patients who have received a 3 year vaccination from another Veterinarian will be recognized until it expires.  Wellness packages are provided for patients of all ages and are different for dogs or cats.  To view the packages and their prices please

Heartworm disease is common in this area and it is recommended that your pet be on a heartworm preventative.  These preventatives can be sold to person's who's pets have previously been seen by the doctor, have valid VCPRs and have current heartworm tests on record.  Heartworm tests are included in our yearly annual wellness packages.

Facility Policies
The veterinary treatment facility has policies to ensure the safety of you and your pet when utilizing the facility. Owners are responsible for their pet while at the clinic. This includes maintaining control of and cleaning up after them. All pets must be on a leash or in a crate to be allowed in the facility. If pets are not on a leash or in a crate one must be purchased upon entry into the clinic.  Owners must be able to restrain their own animals during appointments. Children under 12 are encouraged not to enter the facility for safety reasons, so please make arrangements for your children before you come to your appointment. The Vet Clinic Staff reserves the right to reschedule an appointment if we believe that the safety of you, your pet or others are in jeopardy.  Please see above Eligibility section to view our full policy letter.

IMPORTANT PCSing INFO. CLICK HERE

PCSing with your pet can be stressful, especially overseas, as some countries have very specific and lengthy importation requirements. All persons PCSing can contact the vet clinic for helpful information, but for the overseas travelers, the USDA website, www.USDA.gov, will have the most up-to-date requirements. Also, don't forget to stop by the VTF and pick up your pet's medical records before moving to your new duty station. This will help expedite registration at your new home and provide continuity of care because the next veterinarian will know your pet's medical history.

Pet Owners Living On Base
If you live on base, you are required by base and housing regulations to register your animal(s) with Veterinary Services within 10 working days of your arrival and are limited to 2 animals per household. As of 2007 base housing does not allow certain breeds to live on base, please check with The Landings for specific breeds.  Please remember to bring your records with you when registering.  You may also want to print and fill out our Client Info Forms and Policy Letter available in our Eligibility section.  The Vet Clinic will maintain all your animal's records. Animals that are used or planned to be used for commercial breeding purposes are not allowed services at the Vet Clinic. Use of the Barksdale Veterinary Services Clinic is a privilege, not a right and is mandated by AR 40-905 and 2 BW IDP 31-10 Vol 2 Appendix 35. Anyone who owns a pet on base or uses the Vet Clinic will be expected to know and comply with these regulations.
