NOTICE:

ARTHUR RAY TEAGUE PARKWAY EXTENSION TO OPEN SOON

On February 27 the Arthur Ray Teague Parkway extension from Jimmie Davis to Highway 71 at Sligo Road will open, which will impact traffic flow at Parkway High School in the mornings and afternoons.

To best avoid traffic conflicts, drivers are being asked to access the ART Parkway from one of the streets north of Sligo Road, closest to their subdivision. These entry points include Westgate/Shreveport-Barksdale Highway, Shady Grove, Panther Drive/Walker Place and the Jimmie Davis Highway loop onto the parkway. Motorists will then take a right onto Colleen Drive to enter the school. The attached map may help provide a better point of reference.

Traffic congestion is anticipated for motorists who utilize Sligo Road, as there is no stop sign or traffic light, and they will have to make a left turn onto Colleen Drive to enter Parkway High School.

Law enforcement officers are anticipated to assist with traffic flow during peak school hours when the extension initially opens. It would be wise for drivers to also allow extra time for their commute.

By working together and being on the same page, hopefully we can make this as smooth of a transition as possible.

HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT LEAP TESTING?

Testing for the Louisiana Educational Assessment Program, more commonly known as LEAP, is coming up March 19 and there is help for parents who have questions.

While testing for students of Bossier Schools is conducted in the classroom, home study students and those attending non-public schools can also take the LEAP within the Bossier School System.

An application is available by clicking here: http://www.bossierschools.org/homestudy. Look for the tab that says "Home Study/Non-Public School LEAP Application." The deadline to submit an application is March 8.

Bossier Schools' Department of Accountability, Testing and School Improvement has also revamped its testing page in an effort to answer questions and offer more information about LEAP. Just click here: Accountability and Testing Department.

Good luck to all students taking the LEAP.

The School Liaison Officer (SLO)
Serves as a conduit of school information and is the primary point of contact for public and private school matters.

Mission:
The mission of the School Liaison is to eliminate barriers and build bridges for the academic success of military dependent children through networks and partnerships with our local and global communities.

Vision:
A community in which military and civilian partners work hand in hand to successfully educate and advocate for the military child.

Goals:

  • Understand and identify barriers to quality education for military dependent children in this area and develop solutions.
  • Seek to promote and educate the installation, parents, our Shreveport/Bossier community and schools about the unique needs of military children.
  • Make connections to partners who can provide support and assistance for military families and their educational needs.
  • Communicate information to allow families to effectively advocate for their children in the educational setting.

What If

  • Your child came home with a problem at school that made you and your child's life miserable, and you did not know how to get it resolved or who to talk to?
  • You were PCSing out of here and you wanted to avoid the nightmare with the schools you may have heard others have had?
  • You want to know how to support your child in school or support a school. You know, make your investment in our country that you made in uniform last longer and have greater impact?
  • You want to help your child plan for college, but the school is not giving much help?
  • You have a child who fits into school like a square peg in a round hole and you need other options?
  • You need to know who to talk to about a problem at school?
  • You need a little help figuring out which school your child would do best in and how to get them into it?
  • You need to know why the rules are that way at school?

Our SLO can help!  The Barksdale SLO is available to discuss the education related factors that should be considered, since much of what is important in school selection and education planning does not lend itself readily to countable numbers. These include issues related to personal motivation and learning environments, extracurricular scholastic and athletic opportunities, discipline incidents, attendance and tardiness, class size, strength of parent involvement, experience of educators, grading practices, student aspirations and school support, and of course, local, state and national test results.

The SLO is located in the Airman & Family Readiness Center at 413 Curtiss Rd. Hours of operation are 0730 - 1600, Monday - Friday.
